International Congress of Soil Scientists "Climate Change and Sustainable Soil Management" dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Heydar Aliyev

The International Congress on "Climate Change and Sustainable Soil Management" honoring Heydar Aliyev, the Great Leader of Azerbaijan, on his 100th anniversary, was held in the main building of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan from June 21 to June 23. The congress was organized by Azerbaijan and the Eurasian Federation of Societies of Soil Science. The event's main objectives were to expand cooperation relations and examine and discuss the most recent developments in soil research.

 Prior to the opening of the congress, attendees paid a visit to Heydar Aliyev's grave in the Alley of Honor, where they lay flowers and observed a moment of silence to pay tribute to the late great leader.

The video film "Heydar Aliyev and land reform in Azerbaijan" opened the conference, which was attended by 28 scientists from 7 different countries.

In his welcome speech at the opening ceremony of the event, academician Isa Habibbeyli, president of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan, noted that soil science, which holds a special place in the fields of agriculture and food security, has a long history in Azerbaijan as an agro-industrial country.

The speaker, President of the Federation of Soil Societies of Eurasia, Advisor to the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan, Academician Garib Mammadov, said that the Federation was established in 2012 on the initiative of soil scientists from Azerbaijan, Turkey, Russia and Kazakhstan, and it informed the soil communities about the activities of the institution. Academician Garib Mammadov called the holding of the international congress within the framework of the "Year of Heydar Aliyev" as a significant occasion and pointed out that significant advancements were made in the country's agricultural and agrarian sectors during both of the Great Leader of Azerbaijan's reigns.

Academician Irada Huseynova, vice-president of the Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences, emphasized that the soil is the nation and its people's most significant resource, is a habitat for plants and animals, an important component of the environment that ensures their life.

In the speeches of the guests of the congress - Professor Ridvan Kyzylkaya, a member of the Turkish University Ondokuz Mayys, Professor Sajid Rashid Ahmed, Rector of the University of Kamaliya in Pakistan, Professor Yuri Mayaisky, Member of the Brest State University of Belarus, Chairman of the Board of the Kazakh Research Institute of Soil Science and Agrochemistry named after U.U.Uspanov Raushan Ramazanova , representative of the Czech Republic Matula Svatopolk, - it was noted that the International Congress of Soil Scientists, held at a high level, will give a new impetus to the development of scientific research in soil science with an emphasis on an interdisciplinary approach and sustainable management of soil ecosystems.

It is encouraging to see that at the plenary sessions, young scientists - PhD students, undergraduates, and bachelors from Azerbaijan and Turkey - presented their research findings alongside well-known soil scientists.

 

Moderator and speaker Farid Mustafayev, executive secretary of the ICEFSSS Organizing Committee, did a great job of organizing the Congress at a high level, to whom the guests expressed gratitude for their attention and worthy organization of their time in the beautiful land of Azerbaijan in sunny Baku.

On June 23, the Congress held its final ceremony. A gala meal and concert served as the event's finale.
